Timothy A. Bartrand is a senior environmental engineer in the Environmental Information Services Group for Clancy Environmental Consultants, Inc. Dr. Bartrand has worked as an engineer in diverse settings. His professional experience includes stints as a research engineer modeling engines as a contractor at the NASA Lewis Research Center, a project manager planning and implementing water and sanitation systems in emergency settings in Rwanda and Macedonia, an environmental regulator and, most recently as a visiting research professor at Drexel University performing microbial risk analyses related to water exposures and homeland security concerns.
During the course of his professional career and studies, Dr. Bartrand has developed expertise in modeling the fluid mechanics, chemistry and biology of natural and engineered systems and in quantitative microbial risk assessment (QMRA). His dissertation work, completed in 2006, entailed computational fluid dynamic (CFD) modeling of multiphase flow and pathogen inactivation for a pilot scale ozone disinfection reactor. In his recent QMRA work, he has participated in developing dose-response models for potential bioterror agents, researched the relationship between in vivo microbial growth and the survival of infected individuals and worked in a team developing a risk model for recreational exposures to surface waters.
As a regulator, relief engineer and researcher, Dr. Bartrand has demonstrated an aptitude for working effectively with colleagues and stakeholders who are highly technically trained or who have limited technical training. He has managed staffs of engineers and technicians, conducted classroom instruction and has acted as mentor for graduate students engaged in QMRA research.
