Trisha Johnson is a microbiologist at Clancy Environmental Consultants, Inc. She has over 8 years of experience conducting laboratory and field research in water quality monitoring and hydrology, particularly the detection of pathogenic microorganisms in groundwater. Ms. Johnson has worked as a microbiologist, hydrologist, geologist, and environmental scientist for a variety of state and federal government agencies and in the private sector. She worked recently at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta where her laboratory sought to develop more efficient and effective methods for concentrating and identifying common enteric waterborne microorganisms in recreational waters, raw and finished drinking waters, and reclaimed wastewater, as well as develop rapid methods for concentrating and identifying several biothreat agents, including Bacillus anthracis and Yersinia pestis. Ms. Johnson also assisted in waterborne disease outbreak investigations by testing water or other liquid media samples for pathogens and training field investigators in microbiological water sampling techniques.

As a microbiologist, she has worked with both standard and non-standard culture- and molecular-based microbiological protocols and techniques. In addition to biothreat agents, Ms. Johnson has worked with conventional and alternative bacterial indicators of fecal contamination and a wide variety of pathogenic bacteria, viruses, and protozoa, including Cryptosporidium parvum, Giardia lamblia, nororviruses, enteroviruses, and hepatitis A virus.
